Sports law

Contracts, governance and disputes for athletes, clubs, leagues and federations, including selection, disciplinary and anti-doping proceedings.

What this covers

Sport in India runs on contracts and on the rules of the bodies that govern each game. An athlete’s career, a club’s season and a federation’s authority can each turn on how those rules are written and applied.

Agreya Legal advises athletes, clubs, leagues, federations, sponsors and event organisers. The work covers playing and commercial contracts, the governance of sporting bodies, and disputes over selection, discipline and doping.

Two recent statutes shape the field. The National Sports Governance Act, 2025 provides for the recognition and governance of national sports bodies and for a National Sports Tribunal to hear sports disputes. The National Anti-Doping Act, 2022 gives the National Anti-Doping Agency a statutory footing and sets up the panels that hear doping cases.
